Questions of other parents in Spain

When do I have to pay the €1000,- euro fee?

You pay after we’ve found you your perfect au pair.

What are the rules for au pairs in Spain?
  • They are between 17-30 years old;
  • They are unmarried and have no children;
  • They have enough money to pay for their trip;
  • They have valid health insurance for the duration of their stay in Spain;
  • They speak Spanish and want to improve their language skills;
  • Their native language doesn’t have to be Spanish.
What if the video calls with candidates don't lead to a match?

It happens! It’s unfortunate, but of course we will do our best to find you another candidate who better suits your family.

Does an au pair help with housekeeping?

Yes, the au pair can do light housework. They can help with vacuuming, emptying the dishwasher, putting in a wash and folding laundry – but no cleaning of the bathroom or cleaning windows for example.

What do you pay an au pair in Spain?

The au pair lives with you and your family and is entitled to a minimum of €70 per week in pocket money. They get board and lodging for free.

How many hours per week does a Spanish au pair work?

There is no official regulation for the number of hours a Spanish au pair works, but a work week of 30 hours is often assumed, this includes babysitting work.

How many days off does the au pair have?

An au pair is entitled to at least 1 day off per week and at least once a month. This day must be a Sunday. There are no official agreements regarding au pair leave. You should discuss this with your au pair in advance. We recommend that if you stay in Spain as an au pair for 12 months, you are entitled to at least 4 weeks of leave.

Does my au pair need to register in Spain?

Yes. It is very important that when an au pair stays in Spain for more than 3 months, he or she registers in the population register. The au pair informs the local registration office about his or her stay with the host family.

Help is often requested from the host family, because these formalities differ per province. The next step in this process is to apply for the EU registration certificate. When you stay as an au pair in Spain for more than 3 months, you must request an EU registration certificate from the Foreigners Registration Office. Here too, the formalities differ per autonomous region and province.

We recommend you help your au pair with all of these steps, because it can be pretty overwhelming if he/she has to do it all by themselves.

What does my au pair need to provide in order to apply for an EU registration?
  • The official application form (EX – 18) in duplicate;
  • A valid passport or ID;
  • Proof of health insurance;
  • Proof, for example an au pair contract, which indicates that the au pair has sufficient means to pay for their stay in Spain;
  • We also recommend bringing a copy of the European Agreement on Au Pair Employment in Spanish with you.

It is recommended to provide the required documents in Spanish or one of the other officially recognized languages.
